Welcome!

We are a fiber guild, a support group for fiber enthusiasts.  We are centered around the Fargo, North Dakota / Moorhead, Minnesota area.  We have members that spin, weave, dye, knit, felt, and do other fiber arts.

Meeting Time and Place

Meetings are the second Saturday of each month, from 10:00 AM to noon.  The meeting place may vary.  Informal gatherings also happen at random times.

Upcoming Events:

Day of Sharing

Saturday, June 13th

Share and Learn

Moorhead Public Library Downstairs Meeting Room

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Our first meeting this summer will be a day for sharing what we have and an opportunity to learn new things.  Bring a project that you enjoy doing and bring your questions for those who are working on something that you would like to try. We will have a spinning wheel to try, hand cards, and drop spindles. Pam Burkhardt will be working on her bobbin lace and tatting. Lori Berndt will demonstrate how to spin lace weight yarn for those who would like to spin their own yarn for our mystery shawl.

We will also have an exchange of fibers, supplies, magazines and patterns. This is a great time to go through your stash and weed out anything not needed and bring to share with others. Bring a sack lunch if you wish.

World Wide Knit in Public

Saturday, June 20th

Hosted by: bouclé yarn studio

Location: bouclé yarn studio 311 No. Broadway

Time: 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

We will sit outside on Broadway in front of bouclé or Atomic Coffee. Bring a lawn chair, lunch, beverage, and knitting, spinning, crochet or fiber art of choice.

Bouclé yarn studio is located directly across the street from the Fargo Theatre. You may call bouclé at 701-356-9276 for further details.

Bring a lawn chair to sit in, a sack lunch if you like, but there are food opportunities at the coffee shop or elsewhere on Broadway. Sunscreen and water are also good things to have along. Of course a fun project to knit, spin, crochet... or you can always buy something new at the shop ; )

The backup plan is: If it is raining we will gather inside the shop. Knit in Public Day is not

knitting exclusive. Bring any fiber related project you are working on.

Fiber Challenge 2009

Mystery Shawl Knit Along

At our spring luncheon, Julie Slaby introduced us to our new challenge project.

The pattern will be distributed over the next 11 months, plenty of time to work on the

shawl and have an opportunity to show it off at our May 2010 luncheon.

There is only knitting no purling.

The pattern will be in chart form and only the odd number rows will be shown.

So you will knit a patterned row then one plain knit row.

The shawl will be made of lace weight yarn -- 2000 yards will be needed for this shawl.

Julie used a plain white merino from JoJoland - 440 yards/50 grams.

Multi-colored, hand painted yarns with short color repeats will not work very well. Julie

says that because of the overall garter stitch and then a lace design the effect may come off as too busy.

Needles: Julie used about a 32" circular.

Size G crochet hook -- this will not be needed until the last month

Gauge: 5 stitches/inch before blocking

20 stitches by 30 rows measured 2.5 x 4" before blocking 4 x 4" after blocking

To join in the mystery shawl knit along, contact Julie julie@piecesofstring.net
